ABOUT OUR SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM:

We have been offering low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter services to Southwest Washington cats since August, 2011.  We utilize the surgical services of the Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project in Lynnwood, WA (please do not make your reservation(s) on their website – we book appointments on your behalf) and facilitate an average 1,000 spays/neuters per year for residents of Lewis, Thurston, Cowlitz and Grays Harbor counties.  We do not impose income guidelines and it does not matter where you live.  It also does not matter whether the cat needing surgery is owned or unowned or is tame, feral or somewhere in between.  The only requirements are that the address on your Service Request form is in Washington State, your cat weighs at least 2 pounds, is visibly healthy, not be detectibly pregnant, and, of course, needs to be fixed!

COST (2 parts)

  • Part 1 of 2. PAID IN ADVANCETo The Cat’s Meow Spay, Neuter & Adoption Project   $15 per cat administration fee to help us meet our expenses – this is paid online or over the phone with a 3rd party processor called “Brown Paper Tickets” in advance to lock in your appointment.  You will need a PayPal account or a debit, credit or prepaid gift card.  If you make your reservation online, you will need an email address; if you do not have an email, make your reservation over the phone.  You will find complete instructions in Step 3 below.

  • Part 2 of 2. PAID WITH CASH AT DROP OFF To the Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project       We receive cash for surgeries/additional services on behalf of The Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project and pay them with said cash on the day of surgeries

    • Surgeries – FERAL CAT PROJECT’S POLICY is that every cat must be marked either by an EAR TIP or ABDOMINAL TATTOO for the cat’s future safety – make your selection on the “SERVICE REQUEST” form in Step 2.

      • $0 for feral, free-roaming, stray, strictly outdoor cats – they will receive an EAR TIP to indicate that they have been altered.  Click here to see if your cat qualifies .

      • $15 for pet males – they will receive an ABDOMINAL TATTOO  to indicate that they have been altered.  Click here for details.

      • $25 for pet females – they will receive an ABDOMINAL TATTOO to indicate that they have been altered.  Click here for details.

      • POTENTIAL NON-STANDARD CHARGES FOR TATTOO CATS (These are not common, but do occur occasionally)

        • $15 for cats that are found to be previously altered to cover cost of anesthesia and time to inspect the cat.  In such a case, there would not be a spay or neuter charge.

        • $10 for male cats that are cryptorchid (one or both testicles have not properly descended)

        • $10 for females with pyometra (puss-filled uterine horns).  More time and care is needed to safely perform a spay under these conditions.

        • $15 for medically-necessary hernia repairs.

    • Extras – these are optional and can only be provided at time of surgery.

      • $10 for rabies vaccine – free for cats being EAR TIPPED.

      • $10 for distemper vaccine  This is a very important vaccine – we recommend that all cats receive this as distemper is usually fatal and is extremely easy to transmit, even to a cat that lives indoors; it can transfer from an infected cat or contaminated soil to an un-vaccinated cat on feet, clothes, hands, etc.  Booster recommended after 30 days and then yearly.

      • $5 for flea control – good for 30 days

      • $5 for tapeworm treatment – cats that have fleas or eat mice will almost always have tapeworms

      • $5 for a blood draw – this is for cats that need to be tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and/or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and that cannot be handled for a blood draw unless under anesthesia.  You take the vial of drawn blood to your vet for testing.

      • $15 to purchase a microchip from Feral Cat and have it inserted – registration is free and required

      • $5 to insert a microchip – you must have your own microchip OR purchase one from The Cat’s Meow for $15 at time of drop off (Cat’s Meow microchips include free, life-time registration and come with a tag – the ID# on the tag can be Googled for the finder of your lost pet to contact you faster)

WHAT YOU DO

  • Step 1 – Read, understand and follow the information in Step 1 below

  • Step 2 – Print out the forms in Step 2 below – have these filled out to the best of your ability.  We will review these forms with you on the day of drop off and answer any questions you may have.

  • Step 3 – Make your reservation(s) – see Step 3 below

  • Then, arrive on the designated date between the designated times at the appropriate address – see our Reservations page for these details (drop off is always the afternoon/evening before surgeries)

    • When you arrive, notice which vehicles are ahead of you; when they have left, it is your turn – PLEASE LEAVE YOUR CAT(S) IN THEIR CLOSED CARRIERS IN YOUR CLOSED VEHICLE.  We will perform a safety check of your carriers before they are removed from your vehicle.

    • Please be patient.  We could have as many as 45 cats to check in and nearly as many people.  To streamline this process, everyone with a reservation will be contacted 1 - 2 days before the “Roundup” and assigned a specific drop off time.  We assign times alphabetically by last name and allocate approximately 15 minutes for 2-4 cats.  EXAMPLE – If Mrs. Adams has 4 cats, she will be assigned a 15 minute block of time.  If she has only one cat and Mrs. Alan has 3 cats, they will both be asked to arrive for the same 15 minute block.  If Mrs. Adams has 6 cats, she will be allocated a 30 minute block for check in.

WHAT WE DO

  • Your cat(s) will spend the night in our locked garage.  Our director will be in the house on the same property as the garage.

  • On the day of surgeries, our director will transport your cat(s) to the Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project in Lynnwood.

    • Our director will unload and stay with the cats for the entire day.

      • Please be available to take a call from 360-623-0820 on the day of surgery.  If there are any questions or difficulties during surgery, we MUST be able to reach you.

  • When surgeries are complete, our director will transport the cats back to you.  Pick up is usually at the same location as drop off, but may vary if we are shuttling for multiple communities on the same day.  You will be given pick up details when you drop off your cat(s).

    • DO NOT ARRIVE TO PICK UP YOUR CAT(S) UNTIL GIVEN AN EXACT PICKUP TIME. Be available for pick up between 7:30pm and 9:30pm – our director will communicate with you via text or phone call to make you aware of the exact time of pick up.

    • Pick up is much quicker than drop off.

      • We will divide our clients into 3 - 4 groups for pick-up

      • Be sure to get your spay or neuter certificate and rabies certificate (if applicable) before you leave with your cat(s)

      • Refer to Post Op Instructions in Step 1 below so that you know how to care for your cat(s) after pick-up

IF YOU WISH TO USE OUR PROGRAM, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPAY/NEUTER SERVICES (be sure to scroll down for all three steps):

STEP 1 of 3.  CAREFULLY READ, UNDERSTAND and FOLLOW:

Please read and comply with our Instructions for Preparing Your Cats and Carriers for Transport  or services may be refused.

Know what your cat’s coat length and coloring are: How long is my cat’s fur and what color is (s)he? You will need this information to fill out the Service Request form in Step 2.

Also, review and/or print out Ear Tip Post Op Instructions or Non Ear Tip Post Op Instructions so you will be fully prepared when bringing your cat home after surgery

STEP 2 of 3.  BRING THE FOLLOWING FORMS WITH YOU AT TIME OF DROP OFF:

*PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF PAPER AND INK AND SAVE US TIME AT CHECK IN – PRINT ONLY WHAT IS       NECESSARY – WE DO NOT NEED ANY OF THE FORMS FROM STEP 1 OR STEP 3.

*EACH FORM BELOW INDICATES HOW MANY COPIES ARE NEEDED.

*THANK YOU FOR HELPING US CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

These forms must be printed and filled out by hand.  If you somehow end up filling them out online, it is likely you ended up on The Feral Cat’s website – please stop and come back to our site.

Please do not make reservations through The Feral Cat Project –

we have already booked the appointments on your behalf.

1) Service Request with Surgical Release – ONE (1) 2-page form FOR EACH CAT.  Please try to print the Surgical release on the back of the Service Request, if possible.  If you are not able to print front to back, then please print ONE Service Request per cat and ONLY ONE (1) copy of the Surgical Release.

2) Signature Form – ONLY ONE (1) for each surgical date, not for each cat

STEP 3 of 3.  RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED to drop off your cat(s) at our Spay Neuter Roundup.
